Ford uncovers the Mustang Mach-E all-electric car starting at $45000.

Ford’s Mustang Mach-E is officially publicized on Sunday night at Los Angeles Auto show.

It is Ford’s first fully battery-operated electric SUV, the first electric Mustang. CEO Jim Hackett expressed his gratitude towards the team for the planning, designing and hard work of more than two years behind the product

The high-tech, stylish, spacious, and powerful vehicle is all set to debut in 2011. The five-passenger Mustang will have multiple models, battery options and rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations.

    Features

According to the company, the Mustang will run 230 miles per charge. Ford is aiming at delivering a product that hits the Electric Vehicle market. The base version of the EV is expected to go 60mph in approximately 6 seconds whereas the performance GT version will do it in 3.5 seconds.

The Mach-E is equipped with an extended battery that promises to deliver an equivalent of 332 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque. The headlights and tail lamps are coupled with a recognizable leaping shark-nose cover.

The wheelbase is lengthened from the original plans to give it a sporty look. The haunches at the back give it an influential back end. Designers wanted the Mach-E to look like a fist punching in the air. The door latches are hidden in the window line above the doors.

“Being a compliance-car wasn’t going to cut it. “We had to do something different,” words by Ted Cannis, Ford’s global director of electrification.

Kumar Galhotra, Ford president of North America said: “We chose to do something only Ford can do.”

The Mach-E is priced starting $44,995 and GT models will start at $61,600 exclusive of taxes.

    Pre-orders and Charging options

Ford has started taking pre-orders with a deposit of $500. However, premium models would be available only in 2021. The company says pre-orders will help in appropriate planning of the inventory for uninterrupted supply.

The company will offer home installation of charging ports. Long trips need to be planned considering the access points, FordPass Connect Network with 12,500 charging stations across the country.
